To the compainers: if its so bad-leave!! You bitch and moan but stay?
FYI GW had between 5-6 million subs at its peak and I suspect the numbers will go back to that or better with GW2.
PVP is far more balanced than WOW where you either have the 'right' eq or loose. There are constant rebalances of skills to make it better but that gets complained about to.
There are to many skills, not enough different skills and all the good ones get nerfed....and to add insult to injury the game is free regardless of time spent on it :P
It takes alot of time and money to come up with a new game and we just had one in EOTN. Again..don't like it/leave!

Yea...this is what pisses me off about people who say "OH MY GOD PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING GUILD WARS IS DYING FOR AGES AND LOOOK AT IT!"
Well yea I am looking at it...and its dying. The evidence is there where it wasn't before. Before was just speculation...now its reality.

There are absolutely no numbers which support the claim.
The closest "numbers" NCSoft has ever given was the EotN sales reports, which I calculated that 420k players bought EotN (give or take a few). Obviously, that's not indicative of anything, but I imagine the amount of players remaining will be a lot, lot, LOT less a year later.
If anyone is quoting GW numbers, I need a source. (WoW just hit 11 Mil, so I believe that much.)

It's called giving feedback. If people want to talk about how bad the game is/how the game is dying, let them. There's nothing wrong with them giving their opinion and them giving facts, respectively.

Guild Wars doesn't have subscribers, it has copies sold. There's no way to find out exactly how many players there are judging by the amount of copies sold. There may have been 5-6 million copies sold, but there certainly weren't 5-6 million active players.

That doesn't mean the PvP is balanced, though. People complain about skill balancing because most of the time, the skills are poorly "balanced".

Zinger, all you have to do is look at active districts across the servers, and add them together. I know math is a tough subject, but Windows Calculator can help greatly.
Outposts can fit 150 people max, Capital cities 250 I believe (maybe 300) So, add it up across all countries and districts. During PEAK hours on a weekend, those numbers are not too far off. During the week, probably more like 75k on at any one time. You are out of your mind if you think fewer people play the game, and are highly underestimating the game and its community. Guild Wars might be dying, but it isn't that dead... yet.

Uh, just so you know, GW isn't supposed to be a full time job like WoW. You can log in once a week and not feel bad cause there's no monthly payments.
You can't seriously expect one game to be your only source of entertainment.

According to your math, and the assumption that there are 150k players at peak, that means that there are 750-1000 districts during peak hours.
Riiight.
You can do the math, but you'd be hard pressed to get more than maybe 200 or 300 districts total.

Thats the only reason i play this... its free..add a subscription fee and GW will lose most of its fanbase... imho i think the main problem with this game is poor skills balance... not to mention izzy, the man responsible for the changes, plays wow more than gw

Assuming that just because there are multiple districts that the limit of players there has been reached is just one fault in your math. As long as there is a person in a district it will stay open. LA often has 3-4 districts but hardly ever has a full one. If the system worked how you are implying I wouldn't be able to get into any district beyond the lowest on the list because the others would naturally be full. Not to mention I could count the outpost class areas that reach the limit on one hand.

All cities in all campaigns in all countries? You seriously doubt that? Wow.
You also have to take into account those that are not in district cities, and are in their own play area at any one time.
Also, we are talking PEAK times. Absolute peak on non holiday events (Halloween and Christmas) So, it isn't that crazy to suggest 150k.

I don't think it's as low as 200-300, but I certainly don't believe there are 750-1000 on an average day at peak hours.
I'd love to see how many there are though, would be quite interesting.

If you want less than speculation, look at the historical alliance juggernauts that were going full steam with no sign of decay as recently as 6 months ago. XoO is done. SNOW is done. SMS is moribund if not dead. oOo has been gone so long, people have forgotten it ever existed. What do we have left? Just TAM and Liar? Those who deny that this game is dying are probably those who still think McCain/Palin can win.

So we all agreed that GW is dying, and no one plays...but it would be nice to find out how many actually do...

There are also people who are in denial about the holocaust existing, or the Iraq 'war' being for oil.

Its simple:
1) got to http://www.eve-online.com/, note numbe of people online as A.
2) go to http://www.xfire.com/games/eve/Eve_Online/ note number of people online as B.
3) go to http://www.xfire.com/games/gw/Guild_Wars/ note numbe of people online as C.
Approximate number of people playing GW currently = (A/B)*C
